In her despair she curses God and plans to commit suicide. In the Valley of Hinnom, Jesus appears to her, risen from the dead, and she experiences a life that transcends death. Her grief is turned to joy, and she shares her great experience with the other disciples. In time, the report of her experience of the risen Jesus is supplanted by the later appearances to the male disciples, and a drive toward organized religion occurs. Magdalene laments this development but to no avail. Problems between the Jews and Rome increase, and war results. Jerusalem is destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE and the Jerusalem church comes to its end. At her death Magdalene laments the horrors of the Jewish-Roman war and the drive toward an organized church.
